About Me
Risa Fugetsu was born and raised in Sapporo, Japan. She moved to the U.S. for high school when she was 15 of her own will.
She transferred from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago to the Fashion Institute of Technology in 2019. As FIT and the fashion capital NYC captured her heart, she is now an upcoming graduate in May with a Fashion Design degree. Her AAS final garment for Spring 2021 AAS Exhibition, “Reuse, Repurpose and Recycle” was chosen and is displayed on the FIT website. In 2022, as a team, she won 3rd place in Sakura Collection Japanese Textile Fashion Design Awards held in Philadelphia. Most recently, she received the grand prize for the Contest held by ZERO-TEX by Yamagin during Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo FW23 in Japan.
Her senior thesis garment inspired by the philosophy of “kare-san-sui” will be permanently displayed on the Future of Fashion page of the FIT website. It was featured in Vogue Runway, Up-next Designers, and more. Her concentration is special occasion, and she plans to expand her own brand.
